Hi, Dawn, In CA, the horses at the ranch where I lived were loaded with them . . . LOADED, and I did spend lots of time picking them off. I am told that injectible Ivermectin will take care of them. Some folks have told me that regular Ivermectin wormer will do it, but I used that on all the CA horses, and they still had the tick problem. There are topical preparations like Advantage and Frontline for horses, but I've never used them, so can't vouch for their effectiveness for an investation like you describe, but I know they do work on the dogs and cats I've had.

Does anyone have any suggestions of how to get ticks off of a horse? I am not talking about a few...I am talking about an infestation of them. From the neck down to the hooves. It would take days to pick them all off and her hair coat is really thick. She is doing ok, eating and drinking well and does not show signs of anemia. She's an older horse (17 or so) and has been out to pasture since the summer and is the only horse that got them. And why would she get them and not the other horses? Thanks, Dawn
