Fly Predators

ima, we live in the mid-southern part of texas. it has been very dry here also but we are still using the fly predators. they come monthly and during the peak fly months (i guess that would be summer lol) they send a double supply. when i put them out i look for some fresh manure for some moisture to distribute them. we have 5 of our horses here and the fence line is very close to the house which i love....(lol, sometimes i see them running by the window and think that they are loose.) i never see a fly in the barn and rarely see a fly near the house. i think i have killed 3 flies in the house all summer. one month it was extremely dry when i spread them and i saw flies then. so, be sure you put them near something moist so they will survive. so........i am a believer. good luck!

I have used them for three years now, they work, flys will leave the horse when I take them into the barn...

I'm tryin' the predators for the first time this year. After the first month, the fly population had decreased. However, and the company I ordered from warned of this, here in south-central Louisiana, we've been in a drought. If the ground is bone dry, it decreases the survival rate of the predators. Consequently, here on my third month of predators, I'm disappointed. If y'all been having regular rain, and you're not surrounded by neighbors with livestock where they're not using the predators, you could probably benefit from the predators. All things considered, I still recommend them. Good luck.

I personally havent used them buT A friend did for his boarding stables and liked them .. but you have to order as they recommend. My manure pile is way over yonder like 10 acreas away so it wouldnt do me any good. since you put them on the manure pile or around it ... but he swears by them . I tell you the best thing i have found is the spray at tractor supply called COUNTRY VET farm and home spray . i spray around the stalls and it seems to elimanate them . you can shut the back windows and doors and spray a small amount and the flys drop dead ..of course not with the horses in there. at my other place i had those chickens to and they did a great job!! and they also kept the ants outta my area too.

I used fly predators one year. I don't know if they were from the same company as the one you are looking at or not - I'm guessing there is more than one supplier. I don't recall the name of the supplier I used, as it has been a few years now. I had no discernable difference in my fly population, unfortunately. I had great success with free range chickens, though, in later years, and given the choice between the two fly control methods, I'd choose free range chickens every time. They pretty much eliminated the flies on the place -- I even had guests at a party remark how amazed they were that I had no flies. Hope you have better luck with them. If you try the predators let us know! Gloria

Living in the hot humid weather of the Texas Gulf Coast, flies are a huge problem. I have seen the advertisements in several horse magazines for "Fly Predators". http://www.485a.spalding-labs.com I want to try them to see if they work as good as they are said to work. I wondered if anyone on ES, has used them, and what kind of results did you get? How often were they applied, etc. Thanks, Imatexascowgirl aka Sandra
