Posse,
I looked up some of the info on the Food Grade Diatomaceous Earth. It sounds like a wonderful product. Sounds like this stuff would kill the fly predators. Do you know if it would? It kinda sounds like you would have to use one product or the other. Are you a distributor?

I tried them for the first time this year, and have been happy so far. Yes, it has been wet here in Eastern Ok, so that probably helps.
The company says you need to start early in the year, before the flies get too dense and lay so many eggs. I still have flies after 3 applications, but not near as many as in the past... the cost is no more than a bottle of good fly spray. And remember, the predators don't kill the grown flies, only the larva BEFORE they hatch, so they take time to work.
I will keep using them, my animals & I are enjoying the decrease in flies!

The fly predators are used by some of the local feedlots, including the one where my husband works. They only have about 90,000 head of cattle there, but the predators seem to really work well! I have NO idea how many they order for that quantity, but figger if they use 'em, they must be good! There don't seem to be many flies at all........amazing

Hi, I'm not located in your area, but I have used the predators for several years now. One year I got a late start on them, and I was sorry, as the flies had a head start.
It's a little difficult, as there are cattle in neighboring fields, but even so, there is a big difference when you use the predators regularly. There are several keys to having it work, One,keep a mulch pile near to where you keep the horses, and you can add a little water to that once in a while to keep it slightly moist. Then put the predators in that pile. (I also use red wiggler manure worms in my mulch to have an excellent garden or pasture ammendment in a month or so). Back to the flies, I also spread them in my garden planters around the house. The other thing that is important is to control the adult flies. I use the plastic jar traps with fly attractant, with several around the house and barns. Best to situate those downwind, as they don't smell like roses.

I am soooo glad that Admin kept this message on here. (THANK YOU ADMIN) I needed the “link” to order some Fly Predators. I never tried the Fly Predators last year. There were not very many positive responses on the subject. I have inquired with a whole lot more horse people about them since then, and think I need to try them (Hopefully, I will be proven right) After all, with 8 horses, and a few on the way, it will be a whole lot safer (for the horses), and cheaper to cut down the fly population, than sprays, etc., . I know I’ve had an over abundance of rain to make the little critters hatch, and stay alive, Lol.
I decided I was gonna try them this year. I just ordered my first shipment. If admin hadn’t kept this post, I would’ve had a hard time finding them again. I no longer have the magazines they were advertised in, as they where last years!. I will keep everyone posted, as to my success with the little Predators. Wish me luck. If I do have good luck, I will certainly update the message board so everyone will know how they work near the Texas Gulf Coast.
Thanks,
Imatexascowgirl aka Sandra
