Michelle, You did not get as many responses as I thought you would when I first saw your question. I assume you are wanting one saddle to use on several different horses? There are several things to consider in choosing a saddle, types of riding, size of rider and of course the shape of the horse along with other considerations. You mention a young colt and that means he will change in the next 2 or 3 years. We ride lots of horses here and we have quite a few saddles and several types. Normally a cutting horse saddle is better for multple horses because of how they are built. Most of those sit high over the withers. Roping saddles tend to have more of a snug fit and don't work well for a high withered horse and in my humble opinion the withers is the most critical to fit. Looking at the pics on your site, I didn't see any set high at the withers and that will make your choice a little easier. You can do a lot of correcting with padding but keeping the pommel from pressuring the withers is critical. I hope I said this in a way it makes just a little bit of sense and you owe me what my opinion is worth, a cup of coffee.

Apps, I have a high withered horse and have difficulty with saddles. I ended up buying a wool pad with extra padding at the withers to keep the saddle up higher.

One of the best fitting saddles I have purchased lately is an Abetta. They are synthetic and inexpensive. I have purchase two, (1)is an endurance regular qtr horse bars and (2) is a western pathfinder I use for trail. You can see the catalog at www.abetta.actioncompany.com for specifications. I bought both of my saddles on ebay. One was purchased new through Green River Tack and the other through an individual used, but had only been on the horse once. Each saddle was less than $300. I have owned everything form a Stubeun to a Billy Cook Roper. I love the Abetta because it fits several horses well and is light weight. If you would like any more information just email me and I will be glad to answer any questions. Candace

My only suggestion is to make sure it fits the horse correctly and shop around. I looked at a real nice flex tree with endurance type rigging, but the price tag was $1500. If anyone has advice on a saddle for a high withered Found App, please share. Thanks, AAA Apps

I need advice on choosing a saddle for my daughters young bay horse. He has just been colt started in a western saddle. We are looking for a western saddle that is not to heavy and will fit a few horses. Any advice would be appreciated. Michelle (pearlgirl)
