I have dealt with many suspensory injuries. First it needs to be cooled out with cold water, ice and poultice for a week or two. When the heat is mostly out of it, you need to put a blister on it. Reducine works well (follow the instructions on the can), or Cedarwood oil, painted on the leg with a brush. (If you do not have a leg paint brush a medium bristled toothbrush will do. The leg will swell up quite a bit with Cedar oil, wrapping the leg is optional. Paint for 5-7 days, until you have a good scurf on the leg. The horse should be walked every day if he's not too lame, but no strenuous work for at least a month. After you finish the blister, start painting the leg with an iodine based paint such as Ball's Solution until the swelling goes down, and start wrapping the leg every day. If the leg seems too irritated by the paint, you can sweat it with one of the available horse products and some Saran Wrap.
Good Luck!
