Recently, oregon had a equine herpes virus scare at a dressage show and horses in washington were diagnosed. I had not previously vaccinated for rhino but will now. My vet used Rhinomune which is available thru Jeffers.com for less then 8.00 each. Cheap if you ask me.

Just because it is clearing up one should still stay dilligent about any symptoms, if your horse runs a fever or act suspicious in the hind quarters get it checked.

oh yes I know. Im just glad its all clearing up so horses can resume their travel and so on. alot of shows were going to be canceled due to it, but they should be okay now. I bet the race track people do get frantic though with all the horses in one area. You know west nile is like that . it is in some horses system from being bit but causes no symptoms ( same as humans) but other horses it can make very ill. maybe thats the same with this virus.. I dont know but the good thing is its clearing up.

I know Debbie stevens horse died from it. Not sure about where you are from. But I think it was alot worse here in florida I think as far as barns being under quarentine. The barn is being opened back up next week I believe in wellington area from what I understand. I didnt vaccinate mine either .Im glad its getting cleared up alot of riders are heading down there in a few weeks.

This was a good example of how facts can run amuck. I heard alot of things bantered around as fact and was lucky enough to be talking to the Vet in charge and the expert from Davis. I heard 3 horses died, I heard people read this and that. Before you believe the things you hear in chat as fact or rumors you hear, check things out with the experts.... Be careful about vaccinating your horses when there are problems like this without making sure they show no signs of the problem. All horses have this virus in their system no one know for sure what triggers the virus to go wacky but if they are shedding the cells, one vet said it might not be wise to vaccinate them at that time....just incase....check with the pros if you have any questions about this stuff....

The quarrentine has been lifted. The original horse that was sick is fine now and the other 5 that tested positive and showed no signs of the illness are now testing negative....
