Suggestions for putting weight on an older horse

2HG, I have a high energy sr. citizen and a vet told me several years ago to up the FAT content (not protein) in his feed. That is the main difference between regular feeds vs. ones like "Strategy" by Purina. However, you don't have to spend a lot of extra $$$'s for a brand name, any well balanced feed with a higher fat content will do it. The one I use is made locally with 12% protein and 10% fat, plus coastal grass hay. Since I started using this formula, my horse has maintained weight with no problems. Jacquie

I have an older horse who has lost some teeth and can't seem to keep weight on him. He is getting fed 2 large scoops of senior 2x a day, alfalfa pellets soaked in water, and coastal hay. Any suggestions for putting weight on a hard keeper?
