Thanks yall for the feedback. Monsanto really does not have a very good name,, for many reasons. Neither does Agent Orange... Mother Earth certainly needs our help, and one person at a time Does make a difference.

Hey Cowgirl the damage from most herbicides is hidden. Most of them are variations on Agent Orange (especially 2 4 D). Nasty stuff, ask many Viet Nam vets who were exposed to it. Not only do they have cancer, it seems to be contributing to the childhood cancers of their children. The NY Times had an article a month or two ago about how some of these herbicides are causing male frogs to change sex. Amphibians are especially sensitive to Herbicides. I am not a Round Up fan due to Monsanto's greedy war on farmers & their non stop lying to the public about the safety of their products. They are the epitome of a greedy corporation.

Plus, I use this against the prickly pear in my pastures, and it doesn't harm the grass. Don't ask me why it does what it does, it just works. Curiously, when I used it for the little green-growth in sidewalks, and near the house, it doesn't work...go figure?????

I know we are all trying to go 'green' and help the environment as much as possible. But on reading what this recipe does, it also kills the ground around the plant as well as the weeds, just like Roundup does. Its cheaper, for sure, and wont make animals sick (Ive used roundup for years in my fencelines with no sick animals) so Im just curious what other benefits this vinegar/salt mixture has over the Roundup... If only the weeds are sprayed,, there is no run off. Thanks...

Bringing this to the front again, as it is definitely time to spray those fence lines! I don't like using chemicals around my animals, any more than is absolutely necessary.

This is the EXACT POST that was here before... I copied & pasted it, so I would not loose it either. And it does work!! ------------------------------------------------- 1 gallon of white vinegar 1 cup of table salt 1 tablespoon of liquid dish soap Mix thoroughly until the salt dissolves, pour into a hand-held spray bottle and spray the solution directly on the target weeds. For weeds growing out of cracks in driveways and sidewalks, some people pour salt directly on the weeds. Other people pour straight vinegar directly on weeds. Still others add a few drops of liquid dish soap to the recipe to help the solution stick to the weeds. The important thing to know about this homemade recipe is that is non-selective. Just like any weed killer, use it sparingly and with caution. Non-selective means it will kill or damage any plants or grass that come into contact with it. Also, try to avoid spraying it directly on the soil. Vinegar breaks down the soil structure and kills beneficial microorganisms. In areas where this is applied, the vinegar can render the soil sterile for several years YES, the last sentence is correct. Use of this should be limited to area where absolutely no vegatation is desired.
