You have to make sure that you get the food grade DE not the pool grade DE or you'll kill your livestock!

Not me, Melissa. What have you heard? I never even thought about ulcers. Hummmm. The reports I read online all said it was safe for animals to eat, but no breathing of the dust. My fly problem is a thing of the past, thanks to the DE. I only feed ~1/14 cup daily, sometimes only every other day. Most of the natural wormers recommend only 5 days of treatment/month -not sure why. -But I bet they don't get ride of flies. Vicky

Has anyone ever heard of DE causing ulcers in horses? I wouldn't think that it would, as they sell it at Health Food Stores for humans to take. Was just wondering if anyone has heard. Trying to rule out everything different in a mare with some problems. I love this stuff for fly control. Been feeding it for several months now. I am using it, and the fly predators. The fly predators weren't doing the job by themselves. When I started feeding the DE, it really helped. Also when the mare with problems was fully checked out by the vet, (blood work, fecal, and everything else they could think of), they found ZERO worms. She had been de-wormed with liquid Ivermec only 23 days prior to exam. Worms could have re-infested to some degree in that amount of time.....I can thank the DE for that. ;) Sandra

Hey posse, I just wanted to thank you for telling me about DE. My dogs no longer have a flea problem and its the only thing I'm using to control the fleas. I put it in the yard where they play and haven't seen maybe 3 or 4 fleas in the last 2 months. topaz

I don't any fire ants (yet) but I have used it on regular ants with excellent results. I spread it on a med. sized hill one afternoon, and when I checked it the next afternoon, there were no ants to be seen! So far, I have applied it to my dogs' coats and left it out for free-choice eating... the flea's are vanishing & they don't seem to mind the taste. Vicky

Posse, or Anyone, Do you know if the DE Food Grade will work on ant hills? I don't want to put gas or poisons on the ant hills that come up after all the hard rains. They always seem to come up in, and near my horses' pens and stalls. I didn't want to waste a lot of it, trying it on anthills, till Checked with you. I found some at the main feed store that I use. I have thought about pouring boiling water on the ant hills, but would have to haul it quite a ways. My other question is if anyone knows if this is safe to feed to YOUNG FOALS?? Thanks all! Sandra

DE pool grade is not glass it is fossil shells that have alot of silica in it...do not allow your animals to eat it as it will cause colic similar to sand colic...entirely different from food grade DE...
