I was shocked to receive the email below from Holly. I am posting this for all those who knew and loved Mark. He was really a special person.
Holly, My heart goes out to you.

Today, I lost the love of my life, Markham Ross Mayfield. Mark was 55 years old. He had hopes that the heart surgery would help his quality of life. He wanted, so much, to enjoy his life here at the farm in Kansas . . . a dream that he had since he was a young man.
Mark's system shut down this morning at 6:07 a.m. after a valiant fight and despite the help and caring of all the nurses and many specialists at Kansas Heart Hospital.
Mark's gift to me and to those who knew him, was the ability to be genuine and to care about others. Mark was the most appreciative person I have ever known. He knew how to love without boundaries . . . and I am so thankful to have had him in my life.
Tomorrow, here in Wellington, we are having a quiet viewing for the friends and neighbors we have gotten to know in our brief time together here at the farm.
On Thursday, Mark's body will be flown to San Jose . . . . and on Friday, we will have a service at which time his friends and family are welcome to share stories and memories of his life. The service and funeral will be at Darling-Fisher Funeral Home in Los Gatos at 2:00 p.m. with the burial following at Los Gatos Memorial Cemetery on Los Gatos-Almaden Road. Folks are welcome to follow us to Mark's sister Sharee's home at 6689 Mt. Holly Drive in San Jose for a barbeque, one of Mark's favorite activities. If you want to bring a side dish to share you may do so, but it isn't necessary. Please just come and join us to celebrate the life of this wonderful friend, brother, uncle, and husband.
Thank you for your support, prayers and encouragement during this time. I look forward to seeing you, and I know Mark will be there in spirit.
Holly
